Jon Harris

New York-based hip-hop songwriter and producer Jon Harris creates down-to-earth tracks about his personal journey, life goals and the challenges of human connection. His poetic lyrics and conversational, emotional delivery style shed a bright, colorful light on the stories he tells and continue to move crowds during his energetic live performances. His fearless approach to crafting intricate instrumental melodies, harmonies and beats he has been inspired by modern rap and hip-hop visionaries Eminem, Kanye West, Jay-Z and J Cole. Harris’ most recent major mixtape Destiny’s Calling 2 and his upcoming debut album Who is Jon Harris demonstrate his belief in the power of words as well as his commitment to bold lyrical improvisation and to experimenting with production techniques. Harris’ passion for music began in the wide-open landscape of rap and hip-hop, the moment his brother and cousin started sharing their favorite artists. He fell in love with the many textures of these genres, and his imagination and drive to make music were ignited in a middle school music class when he was introduced to the Fruity Loops studio. Harris found a multi-track recording program that allowed him to record over beats he had dreamed up and put together his first full mixtape in ninth grade while studying writing and putting his own spin on the compound syllable style he admired in other artists’ work. From that point on, he decided he wanted to be a professional hip-hop recording artist and also to write songs and develop a command of the studio in order to produce all his own sample-free work as well as the work of other talented artists in the genre. With his feet still firmly planted in New York, Harris still stirs up inventive rhymes and brings out the subtle nuances of different instruments and sounds that keep all his tracks fresh and make each one even more compelling than the last. He continues to evolve his original music by pulling elements from progressive rock, pop and other genres and styles beyond the hip-hop universe in order to deepen his artistry. After graduating from college, he found himself frustrated by that times over-saturated music landscape and launched Living Life Our Way Entertainment, a record label and production company through which he releases his own music and, as he explains, provides other talented, developing independent artists that want to gain more visibility with “a small means to live their dreams.”

Intro:
What’s up, What’s up, What’s up
Ladies and gentlemen, I go by the name of Jon Harris
What’s up, What’s up, What’s up
Jon Harris on the come up

Verse 1:
Harris in this bitch and I’m not here to amuse you
So don’t get me confused with these wack rappers you’re used to
I aint hatin I’m just making a statement
To make sure I don’t get mistaken for being a trap artist you’re glued to
See hip hop aint dead but it’s on its death bed
And these rappers don’t care they just want a piece of the will
But I’m just what the doctor ordered you can call me the cure
I was made to kill these trash rappers claiming they’re ill
See me, I came from humble beginnings
I was the young one who transformed himself into someone who was winning
And I didn’t need to sell out in case it needs to be spelled out
I never made a song about how my shows always sell out
Or get mad bitches, bad bitch, exotic cars
Getting money living life like a super star
Cause that’s not you and it just aint me
And it aint real, and real’s really all I care to be

Chorus:
I think big, dream big, and I plan big
To make sure everything that I do is big
Never think l small, think limitation, never sell myself short
Cause the only thing I could do is think big
I think big, dream big, and I plan big
To make sure everything that I do is big
I try to get the most out of this life that I live
And the only way to do it is to do it big, so what’s up

Verse 2:
Foot on the gas never slowing
A 27 year old 11 year old I’m never growing up
That means I dream big 24/7
Cause thought of me settling makes me sick til I’m throwing up
Thinking big’s always kept me ahead of my competition
Til now-a-days even my opposition stops to listen
When they think big I think massive
They think quit and land, I think fly this bitch til it’s out of gas and crashes
I rather try and fail, that’s the difference aint it
I give my all til I fall that’s my mission statement
You like to play it safe and get mad at the lack of progress
Like you’re running in place on a treadmill in you fucking basement
I plan big so damn big
Just like me trying to get my big ass foot in your shoe and it can’t fit
I always give it 100, like the truth
Even if every odds telling me that I can’t win

Outro:
What’s up, What’s up
(laugh)
I said What’s up, What’s up, What’s up, What’s Up
Jon Harris on the come up
